Focus and Scope

Aim

Lintas Ilmu publishes research that connects two or more disciplines to explain a problem better than either could alone. We favour empirical work grounded in real settings, especially in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, and we welcome studies from any country when the findings travel.

Scope

Submissions usually start in one of the areas below and reach into at least one other. The examples show the kind of question we look for; the list is not closed.

  • Education and learning: curriculum and assessment, digital and AI-assisted learning, teacher development, learning in multilingual and rural schools.
  • Social sciences and humanities: sociology, anthropology, communication, history, language and culture, religion in public life.
  • Economics, business, and management: MSMEs and the informal economy, Islamic economics and finance, digital commerce, public and organizational management.
  • Law, policy, and governance: regulation, village and regional governance, public service delivery, policy evaluation.
  • Health and wellbeing: public health, health behaviour, nutrition, mental health in schools and communities, health education.
  • Science, technology, and engineering: applied computing, information systems, data science, and engineering work that answers a social or environmental need.
  • Environment, agriculture, and sustainability: food systems, natural resource management, climate adaptation, coastal and peatland communities.

What makes a good fit

  • The research question needs more than one discipline to answer it, and the manuscript shows how the fields were combined.
  • Methods are reported in enough detail for a reader from another field to judge them.
  • The discussion explains what the findings mean for practice, policy, or other fields, and not only for the author's own.

Article types

  • Research articles (4,000–8,000 words): original quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods studies.
  • Review articles (6,000–9,000 words): systematic, scoping, or bibliometric reviews that map a topic across disciplines.

Outside our scope

  • Reports of community service or engagement programmes. Please send these to our sister journal, Lintas Ilmu: Jurnal Riset Multidisiplin.
  • Narrow technical studies with no bearing beyond one specialism, such as a single-algorithm benchmark or a laboratory assay with no applied question.
  • Opinion essays, book reviews, and course assignments.
